Time for reflection

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

I know that the new year has come and we all should have had resolutions in place, but I seem to always be just a hair behind. More than making resolutions, I like to reflect. The past year has had some struggles and some serious good times. I suppose that is the way it is meant to be. Up and down.

This new year is a good time to resolve to return to basics. Be more organized. Eat more healthy foods. Call people back. Face challenges head-on. Don’t procrastinate. You get the picture…..

A recent quote I saw was “Be brilliant at the basics

I think I will simply resolve to try and be more brillant at the basics and with that, I truly believe that all will be better and more prosperous!

Phoenix Rock n’ Roll

Ok…back from Phoenix and running the RNR 1/2 Marathon. I was originally signed up for the full marathon, but due to some training issues I had backed down to the half. After finishing the half and feeling pretty darn good I wished I had pushed myself a little more and gone ahead with the full. Easy to say now!

I was really going to try to hit the 8 minute per mile mark, but due to the training issues (knee pain and cold weather) I didn’t get the time in that was necessary to accomplish that. I did however hit a good time based on all that.

13.1 miles in 1hr 52min. That put me in the top 12 percent of total finishers. I placed 2317 out of a total of 18750 runners. I placed 222 in my division which had 1600 runners. If I had hit my 8 min mile marks I would have finished in 1hr 44 min which would have put me much further up the boards.

Overall a good experience and a good run. I still plan to push for that 1:44 finish in the half and a sub 4hr marathon. Once I accomplish those I will be happy!
