JCC 5k

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

Ran the JCC (Jewish Community Center) Father’s Day 5k on Sunday. A regular 5k sponsored by local sporting goods store Sportz Outdoors. Sportz Outdoors also sponsored the Jay Benson Triathlon mentioned earlier. I drove the area that the race was to be held, but did not really look at the hills and terrain. I suppose I should have watched a little better as the small uphill at the end took me by surprise. Still ran a decent race and actually won my age group (30-34) which was a good feeling.

5k – 23min 32seconds based on my watch time. This was not a chipped event and so there could be some discrepancies between the gun and my watch.

Still going to work hard to get that 21min time. That will put me “on the podium” in a few of the smaller 5k races in the area….I hope. Really, doing these 5k races as part of my scheduled move towards the La Luz trail run (9 miles) in August. I am using a half-marathon training schedule as a guide while trying to mix in as many hills as possible. I am also trying to focus on my over training issues that seem to creep up too regularly by using this schedule to reign myself in a bit.

Fishing in Chama

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

Went fishing/hiking/camping over the weekend with Sean, Lavina, and Adrian. Great, green grass that has obviously had enough moisture despite our drought. The lake was clear and didn’t seem low as it had in the past few years. Didn’t see any sign of beavers this year which is a little surprise. Seems as though we always had a sign of at least one beaver or a family of them by this time of the year.

The big story was the size of the fish that Sean and Adrian caught. Each one landed many fish, but the topper was the few that were brought in at over 24 inches. Yes, over 24 inches and weighing in at about 11 pounds.  That is a rainbow trout that has averaged 12-14 inches and maybe a couple of pounds.

WOOKIE WAS THERE TOO!

Map my run

A very cool site that allows you to map your run distance. Works really well if you use the Google Map. The satellite map is harder to use unless you stay on well used trails or roads.

Enjoy!
